'Father' of Trakway Gives Seal of Approval
In the run up to Christmas, LION Trackhire had a big challenge to accomplish after securing a 3 year contract to provide portable roadways and marquee flooring for the LAMMA agricultural machinery show, the UK's largest outdoor trade show.
Trakway Tried and Tested
Last year, we were trialled by LAMMA organisers on a few sections of the show, and despite the worst rainfall on record, our installations were a watertight success.
LION worked closely with LAMMA to plan the requirements which amounted to a massive 60,000m2 of aluminium trakway ensuring there would be no waterlogged walkways within the showground.
Large Scale Capability
Chief Engineer and Head of Safety, Phill Wright led the project and set up a portable office on site to run operations from. Together with Phill, 3 quality control and project management teams and as much as 7 installations lorries and their crews were deploying roadway at peak times.
Even our MD and industry veteran, Dale Robinson jumped into a lorry and drove some of the 100 loads of Trakway to Peterborough (along with a hefty order of breakfast rolls for the teams on site!).
Aluminium Wins Over Plastic
The contract award was a big decision for the organisers to consider and resulted in a total move from plastic flooring to the better performing and aesthetically pleasing LIONtrack aluminium solution. This year, the floors stayed water tight because of aluminium and the experience of our engineers. Aluminium was beneficial to the exhibitors too because LIONtrack panels were used to display their own heavy-duty farm machinery thanks to it's strength to carry over 1200 tons, on grass alone. The displays looked really smart with a technical engineered look and of course the floor performed without any pedestrian slips or trips, thanks to it's unrivalled gripping surface and flush connectors.
"It added a professional look that was also very practical for the show, not only for our visitors but also in the build-up and breakdown of the show. It was also much appreciated that most of the flooring was new and unused adding to the professional look. We would like to use this flooring again."
LAMMA is one of LION’s largest single projects and our MD wanted to showcase the scale and quality of our capabilities to his father, industry veteran and founder of the portable roadway industry, John Robinson. Dale, a certified rotary-wing pilot decided to fly his father in to see the scale of the show from the air as well as close up on the ground.
Afterwards, John explained:
“I must say I found the whole thing very pleasing, super impressive as a job lot and I could not have felt more proud, and given the time of year, conditions, shear volumes, together with the timescales and limitations involved, rarely have I witnessed such an installation”.
LAMMA show Operations Director, Stuart Favill commented: With a requirement just short of 60,000m2 for the 2015 event, the team at LION exceeded all expectations in all disciplines. From early contract meetings, build up schedule, on site teams, show days, breakdown and so on, the team delivered a consistent work ethic and product. Only positive comments to note and the team at LAMMA are looking forward to working with LION for 2016.
Phill Wright, who trained under John explained that it had been one of the more challenging projects from a timescale aspect.
“I knew technically we could do the project without a shadow of a doubt but the tight timescales were always going to be a challenge. LION doesn't just lay panels onto the ground, these kind of projects require design planning with engineered solutions of substrates to keep water out and packing materials to level the ground and make the whole site safe. But despite the bitter cold and timescales, we have remained on target and completed the massive installation and recovery on-time with some fantastic feedback from the exhibitors. This has been down to the crew's team effort and a lot of LION pride, passion and precision!”
The Lion panel is our premier aluminium trakway systems. This award-winning system has a higher level of grip than any other panel on the market. The system has been certified and independently tested in Germany for strength and capability.
