Transmission Upgrade Works, Leipzig
Bilfinger was commissioned to replace power lines and towers around Leipzig originally installed as far back as the 1940s. Eve supplied over 3 kilometres of aluminium trakway to provide access for the project.
The project began in May 2015, with the two man crew installing Eve’s Hybrid Panels at the site of Mast 19. The aim for the crew at Mast 24 was to support the works and complete the installation, across multiple sites, before the end of the month.
The key challenges of the project were installing in a variety of diverse environments such as undisturbed farmland, heavy undergrowth, through a busy quarry, and bridging drainage ditches. The team worked in close collaboration with the client and co-ordinated directly with landowners to keep disruption to a minimum; this was crucial when a variety of horses, sheep and cattle decided to take a closer look at the great job the crew was doing and then steadfastly refused to move out of their way!! Once resolved, the panels were quickly laid, and helped to protect the ground from any damage the main contractors’ vehicles may have caused.
The project was completed on 27th May 2015, slightly ahead of the proposed schedule, and the testing 17 day programme was achieved by the crew installing over 270 panels each day. The project was signed off by the client and marked a very successful return by Eve into Germany.
