The inaugural RHS Chatsworth Flower Show
Royal Horticultural Society
Chatsworth House, Derbyshire
The Royal Horticultural Society launched a major new show this summer with the backdrop of the stunning Chatsworth House.
The early planning stages involved LIVE’s Senior Access Engineer Mark Hare liaising closely with the RHS. Mark has extensive experience of the estate since planning Chatsworth's Christmas Market infrastructure. The show was located on the banks of the Derwent and Mark’s experience and knowledge of the terrain gave everyone plenty of insight to plan the operation.
An Engineered solution
The stately home is within the Derwent valley and the area is susceptible to rainfall run-off and high soil liquefaction. Mark didn’t want to leave anything to chance and began by surveying the low-lying terrain with penetrometer tests. Estimating the weight and movements of the build transport and overall visitor footfall, Mark calculated an exact configuration for each section of the show's build. The final planning ensured everything happened swiftly and safely and ultimately visitors on foot or mobility aids were safe and dry wherever they moved around the show.
The build had tight timescales and we were required to reposition sections of roadway around the site to help the development of the show. LIVE worked closely with the structure teams and ensured we provided safe access into all halls.
Heavy-duty ‘Behind the scenes’ infrastructure was essential because the ground was incredibly wet, so the application of our market-leading Lion Panel ensured smooth operations throughout the show. Extra security was added to cambering sections by pinning these to the ground, reducing the risk of sideways road movement under heavy traffic.
Once a sketch on a napkin, LIVE has recently launched the improved version of the highly regarded ‘Steerable’ panel. The wheelchair friendly panel was designed to ‘bend’ left or right to change direction in the roadway without having to overlap panels. The new panel is stronger with practically zero trip hazards, and can be configured in single (3m) or double (6m) width roadways to provide a smooth uninterrupted change of direction at any angle.
LIVE are long-term partners with the RHS, installing infrastructure at all their major events including Tatton Park, Hampton Court Palace and Chelsea Flower Shows.
The Lion panel is our premier aluminium trakway systems. This award-winning system has a higher level of grip than any other panel on the market. The system has been certified and independently tested in Germany for strength and capability.
